Taking the place of Skill Capsules are items called Drama Pieces. These appear in the form of in-game cut scenes that can affect the gameplay and overall outcome of the battle, such as the character receiving a Senzu Bean from their partner for health, the character\’s defense or attack raised, or their partner jumping in to defend.

Drama Pieces can only be activated when certain achievements are met. One of the game\’s main modes of play is the \”Z Chronicles\” which allows the player the opportunity to relive key points from the \”Saiyan\” saga to the \”Cell Games\” arc. The first where Bardock defeats Frieza and finds himself mysteriously on present day Earth, and the second where Broly journeys to Earth in search of Goku. Another game mode is the Trial mode, where players are given the option of three types of challenges: the Survival Mode, where players must fight a wave of opponents for as long as their health last, the Time Attack Mode, where the player must defeat opponents before a certain amount of time runs out, and the Battle Points Mode, where players must earn battle points in battle.

The game features an online mode where players battle other players locally or internationally, and also post their high scores from the different game modes. The game was first announced in the December issue of V Jump magazine. It was stated that the game would utilize 2-D fighting mechanics, the cut scenes would affect the overall gameplay and that it would be released for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox games consoles the following year in Japan.

It was revealed that the game would feature both the English and Japanese voice cast and that it would be expected to be released sometime in the third quarter. With some of the featured stages being the Cell arena, the unstable Namek, and Earth\’s orbit.

The game will then quickly transition back to the map so you can continue mashing buttons at your leisure. There are many narratives to complete laid out like episodes of the TV series – each needs to be completed to unlock more characters into the roster. The Burst Limit visuals actually do make quite an improvement over their predecessors, given the affording of quick battle maneuverability. The core issue is that every character seems to have the same skill set bar an ultimate ability.

There is the feeling that there isn\’t enough to challenge a player, where simply random combinations of buttons would be enough to suffice a victory. The game as you probably know only goes up to the Cell Saga and only features 2 characters from the movies that take place during this timeline. It also has a lot of repeated animation, which leads to the idea that this game may have been rushed.

Maybe if we\’d gotten a sequel to the game like the Budokai, Tenkaichi, and Raging Blast series, we could have gotten more characters, but that seems unlikely right now. Having less characters to unlock shortens the lifespan of a game that you\’ve paid around 30 bucks for.

This game also looks gorgeous. All character models and backgrounds look great. There are other modes to play, but you can play most of these fights anyway in versus mode. Time attack, would\’ve been more fun if you had a time limit instead of getting a time for the leaderboards. I said there is a lot of repeated animation in cutscenes, but everything moves smoothly no matter how many times it\’s repeated.

Overall if you like DBZ, you should enjoy this game. I just wish there were more characters, and in essence a longer campaign. Let there be a Burst Limit 2! Great game! Played when it first released in , now more than 10 years later ; I bought a ps3 just to play it again..
